Chaco, Based in rural Western
Colorado, offers a concise line of footwear
for the comfort obsessed. Chaco is not
a division of Nike, Proctor and Gamble
or The Gap. They don't use traditional
modes of advertising, sponsor extreme
athletes or trade on the NYSE. They are
a shoe company who is proud of their independence.
Chaco lives and breathes footwear.
Chaco products are second
to none in quality, from glue bonds
to stitch lines to polyurethane formulations.
Their products are built for the long
haul. In addition, all Chaco footwear
can be resoled, a process that saves
resources and dollars.
Chaco believes that always
running parallel to quality are fit
and function. To achieve this, Chaco
addresses the dynamics of the stride
with a combination of footbed contours,
function-specific materials and outsole
geometries designed to enhance the walking
motion.
Chaco has two more concepts
that are central to their process -
simplicity and versatility. In this
process, simplicity means reducing the
number of components to the absolute
minimum necessary to create functional,
elegant footwear. Product versatility
is their response to the ultra specialized
world that we all get caught up in.
Chaco footwear crosses the boundaries
between work and play, performance and
casual, comfort and aesthetics.

Chaco Z/rivative
Sandals
Take these with you wherever
you go. A casual complement to Performance
sandals, these three models offer slip-on
convenience while providing Chaco quality
and durability. BioCentric footbeds support
your arches, delivering the all-day comfort
that you've come to love in Chacos. Polyurethane
midsoles absorb shock, while the Vibram
Colorado outsole makes this sandal long
lasting and resoleable.
Chaco Sandal Biomechanics
The
fatty pad under your heel bone is
a very effective natural shock absorber.
Chaco BioCentric footbeds are designed
to concentrate this pad for optimal
cushioning and comfort. Footbeds that
are very soft or lack structure allow
the pad to flatten and lose its resillency.
Pronation
is another way your foot absorbs shock.
There is a ligament called the plantar
fascia that connects your heel to
your forefoot. The arch of your foot
is like a bow that flexes, the plantar
fascia is like the bowstring. As the
foot is weighted, the plantar fascia
tightens. The key is to prevent the
foot from over pronating and stressing
the plantar fascia.
If
pronation is not kept in check, the
arch flattens excessively and the
bones of the foot are not aligned
properly for efficient propulsion.
In addition, as the instep drops past
initial pronation, the foot lengthens
and creates fitting difficulties.
Neutral
position occurs when your foot has
pronated slightly and the bones
of your foot are lined up to work
efficiently to propel you forward.
The aggressive footbed contours
of Chaco BioCentric footwear is
designed to stabilize this aligned
position all the way through toe
off.
As
weight moves forward through the arch,
Chaco BioCentric footbeds provide
subtle support to the metatarsal bones,
reducing fatigue.
The
breakpoint, flexpoint and toe spring
must be correctly engineered for each
type of footwear. Stiffer boots need
a breakpoint that is further back;
all footwear needs toe and heel spring
to facilitate a smooth, natural step.
